Privacy policy

The short version

There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter and no contact form on this site. We never ask you for your name, your email address or any other personal detail, and there is nothing here for you to fill in. What exists is server logs, described in full below.

Who runs this site

Canadian Waterfalls is an independent reference to Canadian waterfalls, operated from Canada. For any privacy question, correction or data request, write to info@canadianwaterfalls.ca and we will answer you directly.

What is collected automatically

Server logs

Like effectively every website, our web server writes a line for each request it serves. That line holds your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the HTTP status returned, the referring page if your browser sent one, and your browser's user-agent string. We use it only to operate the site: finding errors, measuring load and spotting abusive traffic. The logs sit on our own server, are never sold or shared, and are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.

Analytics

None. This site runs no analytics package, so no analytics cookies are set and no record of your visit is sent to a third-party measurement service.

Advertising

None. This site carries no advertising and no advertising cookies are set.

Cookies this site sets itself

None. The site is static HTML with a small amount of JavaScript for the directory search, which keeps nothing and stores nothing. No cookies are set at all.

What we do not do

Links to other sites

Our guides link out to Parks Canada, provincial park agencies, municipalities and mapping services, because those are the authoritative sources for access, hours and closures. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices.

Children

This is a general-audience travel reference. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights in Canada

We operate from Canada and handle personal information in line with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You may ask what information we hold about you and request that it be corrected or deleted by writing to info@canadianwaterfalls.ca.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes to how we handle information will be described here rather than made quietly.
